HWG Meeting February 22, 2015

Just a couple of things of note from today's meeting.

Caledon Public Library is holding a short story writing contest "Pan Am Style". It is free to enter and open to writers of all ages. Prizes include cash as well as tickets to attend a Pan Am/Parapan Am event. The theme of the short story is, of the course, Pan Am/Parapan Am. Submit entry to Caledon Public Library from March 1st to April 30th, 2015. Check the website at caledon.library.on.ca.

Tuesday, February 24th at 10:00pm, Harry Posner will be interviewed on the radio station 89.5 FM CKRG regarding his new book "Little Exits". Be sure to tune in.

Harry on the Radio

Culture Cafe's WHEN LIGHTNING STRIKES

Hi all. A cool event I'm organizing at the Alton Mill Arts Centre may be of interest to some of you, if not all. It's called WHEN LIGHTNING STRIKES, and is happening on Friday, January 30th from 7-9 pm.  Four artists from different disciplines will be taking the audience through the creative process from the moment of inspiration through the trials and tribulations and false starts, through to the final result. Giving us an inside look at how artists approach their muses, how they break through blockages, how they stay open to the unexpected. We have a set designer, Andrew Welch, who is also the Town Crier for Caledon, a wonderful mixed media artist, Andrea Trace, who often weaves text into her creations, exceptional singer/songwriter Zoltan Stewart, great energy, beautiful soul, and an obscure and under-appreciated poet named Harry Posner. Tickets are only $5 at the door. There will be nibbles and drinks available courtesy of Shaw's Creek Cafe.  So, come on out, be inspired, ask zany questions, and otherwise have a blast.

Come one, come all! January 28th, 7 pm, at Booklore, Harry will be launching his newest book of flash fiction, LITTLE EXITS. Food, wine, readings, and a special Mystery Guest... Free! See y'all then.

Culture Cafe and the Caledon Library's Stopping by Mill on a Poetry Evening

A crisp early winter's evening, a gorgeous venue, refreshments, neighbours, writers, music and poetry. Caledon Public Library hosted an evening of poetry at the Alton Mills Arts Centre in partnership with the Culture Café. As part of CPL’s Read Local Caledon initiative, the evening celebrated talented homegrown poets in the Caledon community.

Our poets, Harry and Judy performed along with other local award winning poets. The talent in one room was amazing.

Judy performed her award winning poem Forfeit. We all laughed. She did other poems from her forthcoming book, Fat and Other F Words. Hilarious!

Harry was great as always. My granddaughter enjoyed his poetry especially with the addition of music. The other poets were fabulous! My granddaughter and I enjoyed every second of their performance. We laughed, we cried. 

I don't want to forget to mention the to die for desserts along with the beautiful decorated room.

 We can't wait to go to the next poetry session in January.
