Author appearance at Orangeville Public Library

Orangeville Public Library 150th Series: Author Alyxandra Harvey

Author Alyxandra Harvey will make a presentation on Victorian society and ghosts, and the connection to her teen fiction novel Haunting Violet, which was nominated for the 2012 Teen Choice Book Awards, and was the Honour Book for the 2012 Ontario Library Association Red Maple award!

Ms. Harvey's presentation will include the history of vampires in literature and folklore, as well as the fairy tale genre, since Hearts at Stake is a Snow White retelling with vampires.

In case you're wondering, she doesn't just talk the talk, she walks the walk; the Victorian stone house in which she and her husband live has a few resident spirits of its own, and she's is okay with that - as long as they behave themselves.

Among Ms. Harvey's favourite books are The Wood Wife by Terri Windling, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, and of course, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Elizabeth Bennet is her hero because she's smart and sassy, and Mr. Darcy is, well, yum.

Copies of her books will be available for purchase and signing. Free admission. Light refreshments will be provided.
