The publisher's decision to buy someone's book, assuming the material is appropriate to their programme, is based on a combination of many elements including a strong story, good writing and well-presented material. So do your homework. Find out the guidelines for submitting manuscripts for each publisher and follow them. Send in the best work you can - and then be patient. It is not a good idea to threaten the publisher who is, after all, your first point of contact!
