Quote of the Week 04/13

Writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.

The 10 Best Books for Writers

Here's a link to the Editor Unleashed blog's "The 10 Best Books for Writers" post. I have read a few of these but not most of them. Part of the reason is that I'm not big on motivational books. I'm already motivated to write. Most of what I read is about the craft of writing and editing, and lately about the whole publishing process: query letters, pitches, synopses.

I'd have to put Novelist's Essential Guide to Crafting Scenes by Raymond Obstfeld, and especially the final chapter, Revising at the top of my list of writing books. What are your favourites?

JULIA CAMERON, THE ARTIST WAY QUOTE

“I have learned, as a rule of thumb, never to ask whether you can do something. Say, instead, that you are doing it. Then fasten your seat belt. The most remarkable things follow.” – Julia Cameron, The Artist Way

I highly recommend this book. It's a must have for all creative people.

Quote of the Week 04/01

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness... It find the thought and the thought find the words. – Robert Frost

National Poetry Month - First Prompt

Writer's Digest has issued a challenge - a Poem-a-Day for the month of April - National Poetry month. If you post your poems on the website's message board your poem will be eligible to be printed in WD ebook on poetry. You can find the link to the first prompt here:

http://blog.writersdigest.com/poeticasides/CategoryView,category,Poetry%20Prompts.aspx

You don't have to post a poem-a-day. But the prompts might help you get your creativity going.

Good luck!
